This is the time of year when I become a Scrooge. Winter holidays. Hate ’em.
Don’t get me wrong – I don’t begrudge anyone else their right to get totally caught up in the holiday “spirit”, starting with Halloween and lasting all the way through Valentine’s Day. Just don’t try dragging me along with you because it won’t work.
I hate the societal pressures dictating that everything about each holiday has to be “just right”, and the incredible stress that’s caused by those expectations. The reality is that the holidays I’ve experienced as an adult have NEVER lived up to the holiday memories I have from my childhood.
It therefore seems to me that October 30th is the perfect time to climb into bed, pull the blankets over my head and stay put until the last box of candy hearts goes on sale at Walgreen’s and it’s once again safe to rejoin the world in as it continues the daily routines.
